Responsibilities

The Vice Chair of Central, East or West Region Development will manage the fundraising teams and functions within the Department of Development located in the respective Central, East or West regions. In partnership with other development officer leaders, this position develops strategic fundraising plans to carry out the mission of Mayo Clinic and the Department of Development. This position creates a team-oriented work environment and builds teamwork within the department and among physician and administrative colleagues. Primary responsibility is to secure principal, major and estate gifts in support of the Mayo Clinic fundraising priorities both through their own fundraising and by leading a team of fundraisers. Manages strategic activities of the fundraising staff; provides leadership and accountability for fundraising staff activities; and manages a personal portfolio of prospects and benefactors. The incumbent will be expected to maintain a portfolio and will be held accountable for associated metrics. The Vice Chairs of East and West Region Development have responsibility for managing a director of operations in Florida or Arizona and for staffing executive and administrative officer leads at Mayo Clinic in Florida or Mayo Clinic in Arizona. 

Reporting to the Chair – Development, who oversees Regional Fundraising in the Department of Development, the Vice Chair of Central, East or West Region Development oversees fundraising in their respective regions and staffs executive and administrative staff at their respective sites. Shares responsibility for the operating effectiveness of the Department of Development as a member of the Management Team. Works closely with members of the Development staff across teams and the enterprise, Mayo Clinic benefactors and potential benefactors, Associate Medical Directors and other physician leaders and consultants, and executive and administrative staff in Minnesota, Florida or Arizona. Provides leadership and direction to Central, East or West Region development officers and other Department of Development staff supporting fundraising throughout the enterprise. Represents the interests of the entire Department of Development by contributing to the decision-making process in all committee and task force assignments. The Vice Chair will cultivate and solicit a personal portfolio of prospect and benefactor relationships for their own strategic fundraising goals.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree business administration, philanthropy, healthcare administration, nonprofit management, or related field plus a minimum of 10 years of fundraising experience with at least 5 years of management experience OR a Master’s degree plus 8 years of fundraising experience with at least 5 years of management experience in a large, complex organization is required. Capital campaign and volunteer management experience is preferred. The Vice Chair must live in the region they lead.

Requires excellent relationship building skills and ability to interact effectively with high-level contacts internal and external to the organization. Must have excellent analytic thinking and problem-solving skills to assess the impact of activity accurately and fully on the Department of Development's initiatives and strategic plan. Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively deliver presentations and write clear, concise and compelling communications. Excellent management skills required to effectively lead a large team of 10 or more gift officers and a director of development operations in Florida or Arizona. Must be able to work effectively in a consensus-driven operation that expects, promotes, and thrives on teamwork. A willingness to travel is essential.
