Overview
The AVP of Engineering Governance is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and enforcing standards, policies, and procedures related to engineering practices within the organization. This role ensures that engineering teams adhere to best practices, comply with regulatory requirements, and deliver high-quality products and services.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain engineering standards: Define and document engineering standards, guidelines, and templates to ensure consistent practices across the organization.
• Enforce compliance: Monitor adherence to engineering standards and policies, taking corrective actions as needed.
• Conduct audits and assessments: Regularly assess engineering practices and identify areas for improvement.
• Manage governance framework: Develop and oversee a comprehensive governance framework for engineering activities.
• Collaborate with stakeholders: Work closely with engineering teams, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
• Provide technical guidance: Offer expert advice and mentorship to engineering teams on technical best practices.
• Identify and mitigate risks: Identify and assess technical risks, developing mitigation strategies as needed.
• Promote continuous improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering organization.
• Stay updated on industry trends: Keep abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Advanced degree (e.g., Master's, MBA) preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in engineering or a related field.
• Proven track record of developing and implementing engineering standards and policies.
• Strong understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Waterfall).
• Experience with quality assurance and testing practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance requirements.
Desired Skills
• Experience with cloud-based technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub).
• Experience with software architecture and design principles.
• Certifications in relevant areas (e.g., ITIL, PMP, CGEIT).
