We are growing and looking for an experienced privacy and artificial intelligence (AI) counsel who is passionate about technology and innovation and who will lead with our core values to drive innovation. This role is a hybrid in-office role based in our Raleigh, NC office (preferred), but open to candidates who would work at our other office locations, Tempe, AZ, or San Jose, CA.

This role reports directly to the VP, AGC Compliance & Privacy Officer. You will have a hands-on role, work directly with your clients, and take on additional work depending on your results and bandwidth. In this role, you will… 

• Track, advise on, and ensure compliance with global AI and privacy laws in the Americas and regulatory requirements, including GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, Colorado AI Act, EU AI Act, etc.

• Be the global legal leader on the AI Governance Committee that reviews AI products, solutions and vendor.

• Lead Global L’RAQA Center of Excellence.

• Develop and implement legal privacy strategies that support our business AI innovation and development goals.

• Develop and implement AI frameworks, policies, and governance to support our legal obligations.

• Work seamlessly with internal clients and legal on all aspects of AI that impact our products and other emerging technologies.

• Collaborate with the application design and strategic commercial affairs teams to provide oversight and guidance on privacy and AI legal requirements in our technologies through product design, development, and implementation. 

• Develop and conduct legal training programs on AI and privacy laws and policies. 

• Support audits, conduct end-to-end reviews, and assessments of business applications, provide recommendations, and enable compliance with global privacy, AI laws and industry best practices. 

• Stay updated and analyze trends on emerging technologies and their implications for privacy and AI law and compliance. 

• Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks associated with technology, including AI and privacy, to protect the company’s assets and reputation, and propose clear and actionable solutions and guardrails.

• Develop, manage, and optimize data retention and data minimization initiatives to include AI legal and privacy requirements as needed.

• Respond to AI and privacy inquiries and investigations from regulatory or other supervisory authorities in the Americas.

• Serve as a trusted advisor to the VP, AGC Compliance & Privacy Officer on corporate governance matters, support board communication, and alignment with best practices.

• Handle other responsibilities as assigned. 

In this role, you’ll need … 

Education: 

• Must be a fully qualified lawyer in one or more US State

• 6-10 years of legal experience, including experience as a medical device/pharma or technology privacy counsel.

• A Juris Doctor (JD) is required. 

• A Certified International Privacy Professional (CIPP) Certification or equivalent, which is preferred.

• Deep experience with operationalizing data privacy and security requirements, including US State privacy laws, CPRA, HIPAA, managing security incident responses, negotiating DPAs and BAAs, and advising on the impact of new regulations.

• Experience, interest, or familiarity with machine learning, large language models, artificial intelligence, and other advanced technologies with a natural interest and enthusiasm for technical innovation, and building compliance programs across multiple businesses.

• Experience, interest, or familiarity with platform trust and safety issues, handling law enforcement requests, litigation and regulatory matters, cloud computing service, and/or IT Infrastructure

• To have high integrity, fairness, compliance, ethics in all dealings, and sense of urgency and accountability.

• To be willing to travel as needed, expected to be less than 15%.
