Our wholly owned Excess and Surplus Lines company, The Cincinnati Specialty Underwriters Insurance Company, seeks a business development leader. This role is responsible for working closely with underwriting, agents/producers and Sales and Marketing to develop profitable E&S opportunities. If the candidate is not located in proximity to our Fairfield, OH headquarters, this role would be a remote position.

Starting pay: The pay range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000 annually. Pay is based on the applicant’s education, experience, location, knowledge, skills and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance. 

Be ready to:

• drive key business development strategies, including account targeting and cross-selling, in conjunction with Sales

• engage with Sales, zone directors and underwriting managers on national and regional relationships

• travel to sell the CSU value proposition and solicit book review opportunities

• manage the development and execution of book review technology and/or automation

• serve as a single point of contact (where possible), on product support, service standards and opportunity assessments

• coordinate with underwriting managers, zone directors and the director of E&S Underwriting to drive new business opportunities

• provide ongoing training on sales and assist in the development of CSU underwriters

• partner with Sales on new appointment strategies and processes

• lead the creation of monthly tip sheets

• work with Corporate Communications on all CSU marketing and advertising literature, including periodically refreshing our current marketing pieces

• develop agency vertical alignment strategy

• assist with developing underserved territories

• support overall relationship building efforts with key agency partners

• participate in new agency Headquarters visits

• develop and lead the new agency CSU onboarding process

• drive business intelligence efforts across the CSU organization

• participate in ongoing CSU and E&S focused continuing education offerings as an instructor/coordinator

• assist agencies in the development of centers of influence/referral sources for E&S accounts

• become active in industry organizations (IAPPA, construction trade organizations and professional liability focused organizations) in conjunction with product specialists in each class of business

• provide insight and participate in the state planning process

• work with CSU data analysts as needed to provide meaningful data to underwriting leaders

Be equipped with:

• experience with individual risk selection, pricing and portfolio management

• proficiency in Microsoft® Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

• strong organizational skills

• developed verbal and written communication skills

• a strategic thinking mindset with a professional business acumen

Bring education or experience from:

• five or more years of Commercial Lines E&S underwriting and marketing experience with an emphasis on higher hazard or unique commercial property risks

• a bachelor’s degree (or commensurate work experience)

• ASLI or CPCU designation (preferred)
