Mimecast, a global leader in AI-powered security and resilience solutions, is seeking a Director of Tax to join our team in Lexington, MA. Reporting to the tax leader, this role is a critical position within the Finance department, responsible for overseeing worldwide tax financial reporting (ASC 740), North America tax compliance, credits and incentives, and special projects when they arise. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in corporate tax, a strategic mindset, and the ability to navigate the complexities of a global organization.
What You’ll Do:
• Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and IFRS tax accounting standards, including ASC 740 reporting through review of the quarterly and annual tax provision and related disclosures
• Perform analyses to facilitate the budgeting and forecasting process around income taxes (cash taxes, effective tax rate, etc)
• Ensure appropriate internal controls related to tax matters are in place and operating effectively
• Review and manage the outsourced preparation and filing of all US federal, state, and Canada income tax returns, including extensions and quarterly estimated payments
• Manage audits and inquiries from tax authorities as they arise, ensuring timely and effective resolution
• Review and manage the process of the outsourced R&D credit calculation in the US and Canada
• Manage indirect tax compliance for the US and Canada, including Sales and Use taxes, and Canada GST/HST/etc
• Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
• Partner with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, and engineering, to align tax strategies with business objectives
• Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on Mimecast’s operations
• Drive implementation of system improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy
• Prepare/Review ad hoc tax analyses, analytical support, and assistance with other special projects as needed
What You’ll Bring:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or advanced degree (e.g., MST, JD) preferred
• At least 10 years of progressive tax experience, including managerial roles in corporate tax departments and/or public accounting firms
• Expertise in U.S. federal, state, and international tax laws and regulations
• Strong knowledge of ASC 740 and tax accounting principles
• Proven ability to manage complex tax issues in a global organization
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization; Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential
• Strong judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities; Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
