Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Senior Director of Youth Development is responsible for the organization, delivery, and quality of critical youth development programming such as Early Childhood Education, School Age Care, Summer Camp and Youth Sports. Program development, licensing and regulations, educational curriculum, child protection standards, and quality assurance are critical. The Senior Director should have education, experience and a deep passion for youth, camps, education, and recreation; strong management and administrative skills; and vision for the improvement of the Y’s youth programming as well as ideas for additional ways the Y can better serve the needs of youth, children and families in Natrona County. The Senior Director must be able to thrive in a rapidly changing environment with the unique challenges of a non-profit community service organization.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

·        Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, in education, social services, or recreation. Preferred – Degree in Childhood Education or a related field.

·        Minium of three years of leadership experience, managing youth programs.

·        YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.

·        Must have current CPR/First Aid certificate or obtain within the first 30 days of employment.

·        Must have a valid Wyoming driver's license and insurable driving record.

·        Meet state licensing requirements for Director position. Meet annual training hour requirements for state licensing.

Experience/Knowledge/Abilities

·        Experience working with children of different ages and knowledge of the developmental stages and needs of youth.

·        Knowledge of staff supervision, planning, implementing and managing programs and strong organizational and administrative skills.

·        Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fundraising.

·        Ability to interpret and enforce all safety and health regulations.

·        Demonstrates leadership, dependability & flexibility in work hours.

·        Excellent writing, organizational and communication skills. 

·        Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, volunteers, senior leaders, and the general public.

·        A high degree of tact and discretion is required.

·        Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work enthusiastically within constantly changing priorities.

·        Complete within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention and Safety trainings. 

·        Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background checks.

Essential Functions

1. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, assist the CEO with implementing the strategic plan, cultivating teamwork, and providing assistance and resources to all departments as needed.

2. Lead, manage and be accountable for all functions of current and future licensed childcare programs (infant to elementary), youth and family programs, food program, and child abuse prevention, ensuring that goals are met, and that best practices and maximum efficiency are obtained. 

3. Oversee, develop, and control budgets related to the specific departments within area of responsibility.  Review and analyze data and forecasts to maintain a positive fiscal position. 

4. Develop annual operating goals, objectives and plans to meet strategic goals for the organization. Monitor the achievement of these plans, taking appropriate action to ensure that the goals and objectives are met.

5. Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, and direct personnel and volunteers as needed. Review and evaluate performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and volunteers to achieve goals.

6. Assure compliance with state and local regulations. Ensure that program standards are met, and safety procedures are followed.  This includes, but it is not limited to, State Childcare regulations and licensing requirements, CACFP and food program standards and compliance, Y-USA and Praesidium Child Abuse and Risk Management standards.

7. Serve as a liaison, develop and foster relationships with city agencies, school, partners, and other community organizations.  Represents the YMCA in the community and attend events as required.

8. Actively participate in fundraising activities including grants and grant writing, sponsorships and Annual Support Campaign, and related special events.

9. Provide data and reports as required for assigned programs. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs

10. Actively participates in department staff meetings, board committees, and related training.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.
